Getting Started

What is Savvy VPN and how does it work?

Savvy VPN is a Virtual Private Network service that enhances your online privacy and security by creating an encrypted connection between your device and the internet. It works by routing your internet traffic through our secure servers, masking your IP address, and encrypting your data to prevent unauthorized access.

When you connect to Savvy VPN, your device establishes a secure tunnel with one of our servers. All your internet traffic passes through this tunnel, making it difficult for third parties (like ISPs, hackers, or advertisers) to monitor your online activities or collect your personal information.

How do I download and install Savvy VPN?

Downloading and installing Savvy VPN is a straightforward process:

  1. Visit our Download page
  2. Select the appropriate version for your device (Windows, macOS, Android, or iOS)
  3. Follow the on-screen installation instructions
  4. Launch the app once installation is complete
  5. Connect to any of our global servers with just one click

Our installation process typically takes less than 2 minutes. If you encounter any issues during installation, please contact our support team.

Is Savvy VPN really 100% free?

Yes, Savvy VPN is currently 100% free to use with no hidden costs or limitations. We offer our service for free while we build our user base and improve our product.

We're able to maintain a free service through efficient operations and optimized server infrastructure. In the future, we plan to introduce premium plans with additional features, but our basic VPN service will always remain free to use.

Unlike some other free VPN services, we do not:

  • Sell your data to third parties
  • Show intrusive advertisements
  • Impose severe bandwidth or speed limitations
  • Restrict access to essential features
Which devices and platforms are supported?

Savvy VPN currently supports the following platforms:

  • Windows: Windows 8, 10, and 11
  • macOS: macOS 10.14 (Mojave) and later
  • Android: Android 6.0 and above
  • iOS: iOS 13 and above
  • Linux: Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, and CentOS (beta)

We're working on expanding our support to additional platforms, including browser extensions, routers, and smart TVs. Updates will be announced on our website and through our newsletter.

Features & Functionality

What is App Policy Control and how do I use it?

App Policy Control is a feature that allows you to selectively choose which apps on your device use the VPN connection. This is particularly useful if you want certain apps to bypass the VPN for compatibility or performance reasons.

To use App Policy Control:

  1. Open the Savvy VPN app
  2. Navigate to Settings > App Policy
  3. Select either "Allow" or "Disallow" mode
  4. Choose the apps you want to include in your policy
  5. Save your settings

In "Allow" mode, only the selected apps will use the VPN. In "Disallow" mode, all apps except the selected ones will use the VPN.

How does the Battery Saver feature work?

The Battery Saver feature optimizes Savvy VPN's operation to minimize battery consumption on your device. When enabled, it intelligently adjusts connection parameters and background processes without compromising your security.

Key optimizations include:

  • Reducing connection refresh intervals when the device is idle
  • Optimizing encryption operations to be more power-efficient
  • Limiting non-essential background processes
  • Intelligently managing reconnection attempts

To enable Battery Saver, go to Settings > Battery Saver and toggle the feature on. You can set it to activate automatically when your device's battery level falls below a certain percentage.

What is the Connection Accelerator and how does it improve speeds?

The Connection Accelerator is an advanced feature that optimizes your VPN connection to achieve the best possible speeds. It works through several mechanisms:

  • Smart Server Selection: Automatically identifies and connects to the fastest server based on your location
  • Protocol Optimization: Dynamically selects the most efficient protocol for your network conditions
  • Traffic Optimization: Prioritizes bandwidth for active applications over background processes
  • Route Optimization: Finds the most direct connection path to minimize latency

The Connection Accelerator is enabled by default, but you can customize its settings in Settings > Connection Accelerator to prioritize specific applications or adjust optimization preferences.

Security & Privacy

What encryption does Savvy VPN use?

Savvy VPN uses industry-leading AES-256 encryption, the same standard used by governments and military organizations worldwide. This provides an extremely high level of security for your data. Our encryption implementation includes:

  • AES-256-GCM: For data encryption
  • RSA-4096: For key exchange
  • SHA-512: For authentication
  • Perfect Forward Secrecy (PFS): Using Diffie-Hellman key exchange

With this level of encryption, your data remains secure even if someone manages to intercept your connection. The encryption keys are regularly rotated to ensure maximum security at all times.

Does Savvy VPN keep logs of user activity?

Savvy VPN operates under a strict no-logs policy. We do not collect, store, or monitor your online activities, websites visited, files downloaded, or any content you access while connected to our VPN.

The only information we collect is:

  • Basic app usage statistics: Non-identifying information about app functionality for improving our service
  • Aggregate server load data: To optimize server performance and ensure quality of service
  • Connection timestamps: Only the time of connection and disconnection, without any identifying information or activity data

We do not collect or store your IP address, browsing history, traffic data, or any information that could identify you or your online activities. Our servers are configured to prevent storage of user sessions and all temporary data is wiped upon disconnection.

For more information, please view our Privacy Policy.

Does Savvy VPN protect against DNS leaks?

Yes, Savvy VPN includes comprehensive DNS leak protection to ensure your browsing activity remains private. When you connect to our VPN:

  • All DNS requests are routed through our secure DNS servers
  • Our DNS servers are encrypted and do not log queries
  • We implement strict DNS leak prevention measures
  • IPv6 traffic is blocked to prevent potential leaks
  • WebRTC leaks are actively prevented at the application level

You can verify that our DNS leak protection is working by using the built-in leak test in our app or by visiting third-party DNS leak testing websites while connected to Savvy VPN.

Connectivity & Troubleshooting

How do I fix connection issues with Savvy VPN?

If you're experiencing connection issues with Savvy VPN, try these troubleshooting steps:

  1. Check your internet connection: Ensure your device has a stable internet connection independent of the VPN
  2. Restart the app: Close the Savvy VPN app completely and restart it
  3. Try a different server: Some servers may be under maintenance or experiencing high load
  4. Change connection protocol: In Settings > Connection > Protocol, try switching between available options
  5. Restart your device: A simple restart can resolve many connectivity issues
  6. Check your firewall/antivirus: Ensure they're not blocking Savvy VPN's connections
  7. Update the app: Make sure you're using the latest version of Savvy VPN

If problems persist, use our built-in diagnostic tool in Settings > Help > Run Diagnostics, which will generate a report you can share with our support team for assistance.

Why is my VPN connection slow?

VPN speed can be affected by several factors:

  • Server distance: Connecting to distant servers can increase latency
  • Server load: Servers with many users may experience reduced speeds
  • Base internet speed: Your original internet connection speed limits your VPN speed
  • Network congestion: Peak usage times can affect overall performance
  • Protocol choice: Different protocols prioritize either security or speed

To improve your speed:

  1. Connect to the closest server with a good load rating
  2. Enable the Connection Accelerator feature
  3. Try different protocols (Settings > Connection > Protocol)
  4. Ensure no other bandwidth-intensive applications are running
  5. If using WiFi, try a wired connection if possible
Why can't I access certain websites while connected to Savvy VPN?

Several factors could prevent access to websites while using Savvy VPN:

  • VPN detection: Some services actively block known VPN IP addresses
  • Geographical restrictions: Content may be restricted in the server location you're connected to
  • DNS issues: Temporary DNS resolution problems
  • Website maintenance: The site itself may be experiencing issues

Solutions to try:

  1. Switch to a different server location
  2. Try our Stealth Mode (Settings > Connection > Stealth Mode)
  3. Use our Smart DNS feature for streaming services
  4. Add the website to your split tunneling list to bypass the VPN
  5. Check if the website is accessible without the VPN (it may be down)

If you continue having issues, please contact our support team with details of the website you're trying to access.
